Today, I learned about the importance of the uniform, its dignity, and its duties, wherein no civilian should ever wear it without first joining the police service. I was never really fond of the whole concept of wearing a uniform, but after today, I was enlightened that the uniform is more than just clothes; it is a symbol in which we are obligated to perform our duties and responsibilities as we wear it. Executive Order No. 297 EO 297 also orders the "immediate closure of the establishment, plant or office where the uniforms and other items are illegally manufactured, stored, sold or distributed."[1] SECTION 4. The use of PNP uniforms, logos, and other accouterments by a person who is not a member of the uniformed Philippine National Police personnel is also prohibited. The Revised Penal Code (RA 3815) punishes "any person who shall publicly and improperly use of insignia, uniforms or apparel related to an office not held by such person or to a class or persons of which he or she is not a member," was strengthened by The EO, as required by law.." Under Republic Act 8293, also known as the "Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines," all PNP uniforms and accessories must be registered with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines to protect the PNP's ownership of its patented designs and prevent the production of subpar and unlicensed uniforms by unauthorized manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, and sellers.."[2]. There is respect and power behind the uniform; therefore, one should be able to give it the utmost care when wearing and taking it off. Even as a civilian, I was fascinated with my father's uniform and imagined myself wearing it one day. I am so close yet so far to finally being able to wear the uniform same as his. The uniform symbolizes power and honor to the country it belongs to.
