The Start of my Journey

I am P/CDT Maverick Allan C Canlas from the Summer Capital of the Philippines, the City of Baguio. I was born on August 25, 1999, to Melvin Canlas and Mely Canlas, natives of Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan. My Father, the breadwinner of our family, died at an early age. As the eldest among siblings, I took responsibility for helping my mother with our financial problems.

It was hard, but I was able to graduate from Senior High School under the Humanities and Social Sciences Strand. Upon graduation, I started working as a part-time barista at Starbucks. My Father was a police officer before he died. I wanted to be like him, so I decided to try my luck and take all the entrance exams for all service Academies: the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), and other institutions. With the help of our God, I passed the entrance examination for the Philippine National Police Academy and the Philippine Military Academy. I faced the dilemma of what to choose, but I decided to take the road less traveled, and now I don't regret my decision.

In 2019, I was proud of myself for being one of the takers who passed all the screening phases required by the PNPA. Days, weeks, and months pass, and my journey has not been easy. Being a Cadet at the Ph ilippine National Police Academy is more than being a simple college student. Before I stepped on the hallowed ground of the Academy, I prepared myself mentally, emotionally, and physically. I learned to be more independent and be on my own.

Poverty will never be a hindrance in achieving one's dream. Those who value their hardships are the ones who become successful someday. Confidence in one's talent is a necessary component of self-belief. It entails having faith in your ability to carry out your commitments and knowing that those efforts will result in the desired outcomes.

Most of all, it developed my character. Those moments passed and enlightened me to see the inevitable, the impossible, and the unknown. They say we should enjoy it while it lasts, but for me, it made me grow as an individual and made me content with what I had. Now, as I prepare to start a new chapter in my life, a new kind of leadership will be revealed to me. I will arm myself with the principles of what is right and virtuous. The playing field will be more prominent, and the regulations will be more precise and severe.
