Theories and Real Life

The beauty of life comes from the gift of sharing experiences. This act guides the youth and recognizes older people's decisions, which is to mentor and become a hope for the future. Here at the Philippine National Police Academy, we ought to learn the theories and their applications in policing that guide our knowledge into something in-depth with what we do and what our duties will be soon as we go out.

The difference between the book and actual life in terms of theories is heaven apart[1]. In my view, many assumptions are made to explain the phenomenon and concepts being nurtured here inside the Academy. In contrast, in real life, there are no assumptions. Conditions are always unique, emphasizing the varying applications of theories and how one can decide, highlighting what to do. This determines your fate, people, and reputation as an effective leader, which will become grounds for your career as an officer.

Experience teaches us that the theory may or may not work in a finite world. More significantly, it equips us to look for additional perspectives and alternative types of solutions when the flaws of the natural world bite us. Real-life experience only teaches how to deal with the discrepancy between theory and practice. Without them, finding solutions to any problem would be hard to make.

Cadet Attachment Program is intended for us to be part of the community and apply what we learned during our stay in the Academy. When experience is just theoretical and not used, errors are inevitable. We should realize that there is a balance between concepts and application to the extent of possible outcomes to maximize one's comprehension of theory and practice.

You will gradually acquire confidence by observing others and going through processes yourself. You will work to achieve a mastering frame of mind. If you do not know the answer, conduct some research. Be ready to adjust as the world changes since theories and methods also change. You will benefit from having a capacity for lifelong learning in our fast-paced industry. Seek to comprehend a variety of approaches and be prepared to put them into practice. Recognize the differences between theory and practice and when to use either to your advantage.
